2025-26 HS ASSISTANT/JV GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH

 

This position is open until filled. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing assistance to the head coach in the area of coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they may achieve a higher level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.    

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties of this position include the following.  Employees in the position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Follow and maintain knowledge of District policies and procedures relevant to this position.
  2. Implement the head coach’s philosophy and program style.
  3. Set a positive example in behavior and sportsmanship for all athletes.
  4. Plan and set up activities, practices and games/meets as assigned by the head coach.
  5. Develop appropriate training programs and practice schedules as assigned by the head coach.
  6. Travel and actively supervise student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
  7. Responsible for all equipment assigned for that level and ensure team members return all equipment issued and inventory the equipment at the end of the season.
  8. Ensure proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms.
  9. Maintain a safe environment and promptly report all injuries to the office or Athletic Director.
  10. Notify the athletic department of any needed repairs to equipment, grounds or building.
  11. Enforce all athletic regulations and rules during season.
  12. All coaches are expected to dress in school appropriate clothing for all events.
  13. Cooperation with administration, faculty, athletic director, parents and other staff members, working together harmoniously for the betterment of the program.
  14. Coaches may be personally responsible for any fines levied against the district as a result of his/her actions. 
  15. Maintain loyalty to the head coach and assume extra duties as deemed necessary.
  16. Additional duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age, 21 years.
  2. High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  3. Prefer at least six months related experience teaching appropriate skills and techniques for the sport involved. Prior successful experience working in a school setting or coaching student athletes strongly preferred.
  4. Background/Fingerprint and Criminal History Clearance.
  5. First Aid and CPR Certification.
  6. Certificates and testing as determined by the District. Ability to obtain Coaching Certification through the National Federation of High Schools and Oregon State Component Certification.
  7. Work well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. 
  8. Demonstrate the ability to successfully coach, lead and/or motivate adolescent students.
  9. Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to students and other school staff.
  10. Ability to participate in athletic activities. Possess knowledge of effective behavior management methods, exercise good judgment, and work in a dynamic environment.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk, run, jump, stretch, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly list and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.  The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes or ladders.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.  The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.

The work environment is a standard gymnasium and/or other athletic practice and event settings.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid outdoor weather conditions.  The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and/or blood borne pathogens.
