The Assistant Athletic Trainer position is responsible for the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by athletes for assigned sport(s).
75% Provide daily medical coverage to over 125 members of the Track & Field/Cross Country program including: injury prevention, recognition & assessment, injury treatment & rehabilitation as well as referrals for athletic & non-athletic injuries and ailments, maintains all medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations. Maintains emergency action plans for all permanent and temporary practice and competition venues associated with track. Coordinate or provide transportation to medical appointments. Maintains current knowledge base of policy and procedures in accordance with national best practices, rules and regulations set for the the NCAA and SEC. Adheres to conference guidelines, including visiting team accommodations and services. Maintains CPR and AED certification. Collaborates with ADAP, Sports Psychology and Counseling and Performance Nutrition for the betterment of the whole athlete. Assist with Pre-Participation Exams; serve as medical coordinator for any post-season Track & Field/Cross Country regional and championship events hosted by LSU..
10% Provide management and communication to on-site physical therapy and chiropractic session on LSU campus. Facilitate communication between fellow athletic trainers and physical therapists and/or chiropractor.
10% Preceptor of Athletic Training Students; and supervision of two intern athletic trainers assigned to Track and Field/Cross Country.
5% Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of a respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Athletic Administration or Health Related Field with two years of experience in athletic training at the collegiate or professional level; NATA certified for at least 2 years and eligibility for Louisiana state licensure; CPR/AED certified
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with a D1 track and field program.
Special or Physical Requirements:
Ability to work extended days and weekends. Travel is required. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University PS-67. Pre-employment drug screen and physical required. Driver's license required.
