DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Athletic Trainer position is a full-time, 10.5-month position responsible to the Head Athletic Trainer. This individual must possess proven ability contributing to an athletic training program and maintaining a high degree of academic and athletic excellence within the program. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists in administering a two-year student athletic training program requiring six semester hours of instruction each long semester and the recruitment of 16 student athletic trainers.
  • Assists in coordinating and participating in pre-season physicals for all student athletes.
  • Travels with teams as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Maintains inventory of training supplies.  Prepares orders for supplies as needed.
  • Assists in providing athletic training services for all TJC sports as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer
  • Assists in providing licensed athletic training service for all TJC hosted athletic events as needed.
  • Being on 24-hour call for student-athlete emergencies.
  • Referring student-athletes for physician care as needed.
  • Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
  • Serves as a liaison between graduate assistant trainer and Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

If travel is required, candidate must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

Master’s degree

Required Experience

Experience at the post-secondary level

Required Credentials/Licensures

Athletic Trainer Certification 

Additional Job-Specific Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of skills, techniques, and strategies of athletic training

Successful athletic training experience at the secondary and /or college level
