Job Summary
The Assistant Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Basketball Coach with all facets of the program; to include organization, development, recruiting, and leadership of a highly competitive Division Il basketball program in support of the mission and core values of Tuskegee University. The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach supporting the Head Coach by coaching student athletes, recruiting, monitoring student athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel and scholarships and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student athlete.
Physical Demands
Active Participation in Practices and Drills: Expected to actively participate in practices, demonstrating drills and techniques. This involves a considerable amount of walking, running, jogging, jumping, and other dynamic movements on the court Demonstrating Skills and Techniques: Must possess the physical dexterity to demonstrate basketball-specific drills and techniques effectively. This can involve shooting, dribbling, passing, and showcasing footwork and defensive stances Physical Exertion and Lifting: Need to lift and move equipment. This can range from moderate to heavy exertion, with requirements sometimes including lifting up to 25 pounds to shoulder height or 50-80 pounds to waist height. Travel Requirements: Significant travel responsibilities for scouting, recruiting, and accompanying the team to away games. This requires being able to sit for extended periods of time, as well as navigating airports and transportation hubs. Extended Hours and Irregular Schedules: Basketball seasons are demanding, and frequently work long and irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This necessitates the physical endurance to maintain a high level of activity and focus over extended periods B eing Able to Withstand Environmental Conditions: Work may be performed in indoor gymnasiums and potentially outdoors. May be exposed to varying weather conditions and environments with different noise levels
