The Head Cheer Coach will oversee a cheer program within the academic and athletic mission of the Ivy League, the NCAA, and Yale University. This person will direct practices and competitions, as well as teach, coach, and maintain the roster of cheerleaders year to year promoting sportsmanship and safety. The Head Coach will also assist in coordinating administrative efforts supporting team travel, team gear distribution, uniform distribution, scheduling, fundraising, and other administrative duties in conjunction with the Yale Athletic Department.
Required Skills and Abilities
CPR Certification and USA Cheer Safety & Risk Management Certification
Ability to manage cheer squad including training, conditioning, and practice schedules.
Proficient in managing cheer squad budget and equipment.
Ability to create a plan pertaining to all aspects of technical development and game-day preparation and competitions.
Proficient in managing Yale Cheer email and social media account.
Experience in coaching high school and/or college cheerleading.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree preferred. Prior competition level coaching is preferred.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Oversees a team sport within the parameters of the structure and regulations of the Ivy League, other athletic leagues for the particular sport, Club Sports policies and procedures, and the University. 2. Formulates and sets policies governing the strategies of play and conditioning of athletes and ensures such goals are known to the team members. 3. Trains and conditions the athletes; monitors the mental and physical condition of athletes and changes training methods, if warranted. Independently determines and shapes the strategy, technical aspects, and game preparation; teaches team concepts. 4. Assists with such areas fund-raising; performance of athletes; contest management; travel plans; budgetary concerns, and other administrative details required to carry out contests or practices. 5. Oversees and directs activities of Assistant Coach, trainer, team officers, as applicable and within established guidelines. 6. Promotes a positive image of the sports program at the University, for alumni, and on a regional, national, and international level. 7. Mentors student administrators to develop as better team leaders. 8. Develops a short- and long-term vision to develop and strengthen the team, on and off the field. 9. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, serving as an officer/liaison to the board overseeing the applicable league. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
