GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

Responsible for the overall development, coordination, coaching and administration of the Intercollegiate athletic baseball program, including student-athlete recruiting, scholarships, scheduling of competition, travel, meals and lodging arrangements, officials, oversee student-athletic housing and other arrangements as necessary to support the program; to develop written policies for the program where needed; to teach college level classes; to develop student academic success; to maintain and promote interpersonal relationships and discipline among players on and off the field; and to perform other closely related duties as assigned. This position receives general supervision from the Director of Athletics and exercises no supervision. 

NOTE:  This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.


SELECTION CRITERIA:

The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:

Knowledge: 1. Comprehensive understanding of baseball fundamentals, strategy, and athlete development; 2. How to maintain in game lineup adjustments and handle all aspect of offense, defensive and pitching; 3. How to evaluate potential student-athletes; 4. How to maintain a budget; 5. Federal, State, athletic conference and college organizational laws and policies; Skills in: 6. Organizing and developing programs that will develop better student-athletes; 7. Managing time effectively across recruiting, coaching, compliance, and administrative tasks; 8. Leading and motivating students to excel as players, scholars, and community members; Ability to: 9. Demonstrate and teach advanced baseball techniques (hitting, pitching, infield/outfield mechanics); 10. Recruit and retain student athletes; 11. Supervise student-athlete housing; 12. Maintain equipment inventory and facility upkeep including safely lifting heavy objects; 13. Communicate clearly and professionally in person, via email, and on social media platforms; 14. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, students, and external partners.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Restricted:  Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods.   Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.), some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard:  Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors.  Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions.   Frequency or severity are limited.


QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: More than one year of baseball coaching experience; with documented work experience in developing student academic success


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: Baseball coaching experience at the collegiate, high school or club level; teaching experience at high school or postsecondary level
