Athletic Coaching Position, Part-time, Seasonal

Roeper is currently recruiting for a Head Coach for our Varsity Girls Basketball Team.
 
The coach, under the direction of the Athletic Director, will be responsible for instructing students in sport fundamentals, encouraging athletic development, and motivating student athletes. Responsibilities include conducting practices, coaching games and tournaments, and completing administrative responsibilities. 
 
We seek candidates who have excellent personal character, commitment to students and the school community, and demonstrated knowledge and experience coaching middle and/or high school sports. 
 
The Winter 2025-26 Basketball Season begins in November 2025. Apply by September 30 to be considered for this opportunity.
 
Position Summary:
  • Coordinate and oversee all practice sessions and games with emphasis on safety and supervision of athletes
  • Teach sport fundamentals, instruct and motivate students
  • Contributes to the development of the athletic sports program
  • Promote positive attitude, sportsmanship and academic achievement
  • Comply with Roeper procedures and policies including MIAC Policy manual and the MHSAA Athletic Code
  • Understands and applies MHSAA rules and regulations
  • Complete CPR, First Aid, concussion awareness and other safety related training designated by Roeper
  • Follow all health and safety protocols
  • Record year end results and statistics for records and honors
  • Manage and maintain facilities and equipment, including inventory reports, uniform and property collection
  • Communicate regularly with student athletes and families on athletic program
  • Model positive behaviors for students and colleagues that align with the school’s core values.
  • Maintain effective, respectful, and gracious communication with other coaches, colleagues, and administration.
Skills
  • Coaching skills: proven record of successful coaching experience
  • Strong communication skills; basic computer competency essential
  • Ability to form collaborative work relationships 
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency work in order to perform responsibilities in accordance with Roeper's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  
  • A collegial approach and congenial temperament
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of athletic coaching experience preferred
  • First Aid/CPR Certification current status or willingness to obtain credentials
  • Preference will be given to candidates with head coaching experience at the middle and/or high school level, teaching experience and/or teaching certificate
Location:
  • Lower School Campus: Bloomfield Hills, MI
  • Middle Upper  School Campus: Birmingham, MI
  • Roeper competes with local teams within the Metro-Detroit area
 
Availability
  • Season Dates: November 2025 – March 2026
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes variable start and end times, including afternoons, evenings and weekends
  • Willing to travel to sporting events in metro-Detroit area
