Lead, teach, and inspire—one practice at a time!
Bring your energy and love of the game to our Youth Basketball League. As a Youth Basketball Coach, you’ll plan engaging practices, coach games, and create a positive, supportive environment where players learn fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Schedule: Weekdays 5–7 pm & Sundays 12–6 pm
Location: Local Crystal Lake High Schools (hours may vary by league schedule and school availability)
What you’ll do:
- Plan and lead practices aligned to the Park District’s basketball curriculum.
- Coach Sunday games, teaching rules and reinforcing fair play.
- Actively engage every participant; provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Arrive early to inspect spaces and set up equipment; start and end on time.
- Communicate with players, guardians, supervisors, and officials.
- Keep facilities tidy and safe; complete incident/accident reports as needed.
- Encourage Program Evaluations and submit attendance/season-end materials.
- Wear issued Crystal Lake Park District apparel while on duty.
- Follow all District policies, safety rules, and procedures; report hazards immediately.
What you bring
- Age 16+ with enthusiasm, creativity, and a friendly, confident presence.
- Ability to communicate with youth and adults and get kids excited to learn.
- Organized, punctual, flexible, and open to new ideas and approaches.
- Calm under pressure with sound judgment, tact, and professionalism.
- Able to work independently with general direction and collaborate as part of a team.
- CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Physical & work conditions
- Frequent walking/standing; occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs (heavier with assistance).
- Specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus).
- Indoor gym setting with occasional elevated noise; some temperature variation.
