The City of Gunnison is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to coach in our Youth Soccer Program! As a Youth Soccer Coach, you’ll lead practices, teach skills, and create a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for kids ages 4–15. Whether you're a seasoned soccer player or simply love working with children, this is a great opportunity to make a positive impact while being active outdoors.

This part-time role runs 2–3 days per week for short afternoon sessions, making it perfect for students, parents, or anyone who wants to give back to the community. Starting pay is $18.61/hour, and we provide any necessary training. Examples of Duties

General Purpose:
The successful applicant for this position will help coach the City of Gunnison Recreation Department’s Youth Soccer program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaches are responsible for a group of 20-25 children during soccer practice, and must ensure children's safety, supervise and engage in daily activities and manage participant expectations and behaviors. The Youth Soccer Coach will model constructive participation in all daily activities, and will develop strong relationships with participants, parents and co-workers. Coaches will work closely with other soccer coaches, Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Assistant and Recreation Coordinator to ensure the safest environment for participants while making sure FUN is a main priority for all and to perform duties as assigned by supervisors.  
The program runs two to three days a week for 1hr to 1.5hrs depending on the age group.
Job Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:Must be at least 16 years and demonstrate an ability to work with children.  
Other Necessary Requirements:Possession of concussion training/certifications. If applicant does not have these upon hire, they will be required to obtain within 30 days of hire. Candidates must successfully complete a background investigation prior to employment. 
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Coaches must be engaging, safety oriented and have good organizational, communication, and punctuality skills. Experience working with children ages 4-15.  
Soccer knowledge or ability to learn the game of soccer.
English Language Comprehension - Requires the ability to listen to, read, understand and communicate the English language so that others are able to understand.  This must be done both orally and in writing, at the level appropriate for the position held.
Working Conditions
Work Environment:Incumbents work in outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to communicable illnesses, blood, and body fluids. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.
Physical Activities:This position requires continual public interaction and communication with parents and participants. Requires running, walking, kicking a soccer ball, projecting voice for all to hear in an outdoor environment. 
Stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time. Handles and operates objects and equipment, reaches outward and above shoulder to carry, pull, push or lift up to 50 lbs. May need to pick up children. May occasionally climb, crawl, squat and/or kneel. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
Tools and Equipment Used:To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses a phone. This position also regularly uses and operates first-aid supplies and equipment. This position may be required to drive a Department vehicle and/or a personal vehicle for business purposes.
Supervision Received:
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, Recreation Assistant and Recreation Supervisor.  
Supervision Exercised:
Supervision of the program participants is a main priority of the program. There is no supervision of staff/employees for this position.
