Extra Service Duty Job Description
Title: Athletic Director –Secondary
Supervisor: Reports to building level Principals
Appointment: Athletics Directors shall be appointed annually by the Superintendent
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree or higher and Kentucky Teacher Certification
2. Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and
adults.
3. Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents
and faculty.
Physical Qualifications:
Shall have the ability to sit, stoop, stand and lift (possibly up to 50 lbs or more), and perform any and all body movements as related to the job description.
Job Goal:
To provide our middle and elementary students an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of competitive sport, and the principals of fair play.
General Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
1. Shall present a positive image of the district to parents, and convey to them the
school’s genuine concern with the education, growth, and development of each
student athlete.
2. Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district
and the community.
3. Shall carry out assignments in a timely manner.
4. Shall react positively to directives.
5. Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district
administrators, principals and staff.
6. Shall maintain confidentiality.
7. Shall adhere to expectations set forth in the district Bond of Professionalism.
8. Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and
facilities.
9. Shall adhere to all School Board of Education policies and procedures.
Specific Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
1. Shall organize and administer the overall program of extracurricular athletics for
assigned schools.
2. Shall provide leadership in the selection and evaluation of athletic coaches and
staff members.
3. Shall assist head coaches in the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic
athletic events.
4. Shall assist head coaches in the arranging of transportation for athletic contests.
5. Shall work with school and district administration to ensure the scheduling and
compensation for game officials and security as required for all contests.
6. Shall establish the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for
participation in each sport, and verify each athlete’s eligibility according to
standards set forth by the KHSAA.
7. Shall work with the principal in preparing and administering the athletic program
budget.
8. Shall work with appropriate staff members to ensure that the appropriate
supplies, uniforms, and equipment are purchases for each sport.
9. Shall ensure that each program is responsible for the proper cleaning, storage
and care of all athletic equipment.
10. Shall supervise all ticket sales connected with the athletic program and assume
responsibility for proper handling and accounting of moneys involved.
11. Shall assist head coach in arranging for all details of a visiting teams’ needs as
approved by the building level principal.
12. Shall make all necessary arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields and
facilities.
13. Shall oversee the fairness of practice schedules as they relate to available time on
the fields and in the gymnasiums.
14. Shall assist all head coaches wit hthe required paper work for each participant
(KHSAA forms, student insurance, random drug testing, etc.) in order to collect,
organize and maintain all records.
15. Shall work with the District finance office in the processing of all student insurance
policies, reports, and claims.
16. Shall work with the head coach of each sport to maintain a record file of both the
historical and current records and accomplishments of each to include team
records and awards as well as individual records and awards, including athletic
scholarships.
17. Shall ensure that each sport has an annual award and recognition event.
18. Shall work with the District Personnel office in the orgaization and the
implementation of the District Student Athlete Drug-free testing program.
19. Shall represent assigned school at all KHSAA required meetings and at all district
and regional planning meetings.
20. Shall complete other duties assigned by supervisor.
Days of Employment: 192 day contract
Salary: $8,659.73 extra duty
