Athletic Trainer

Department of Athletics

The Xavier University Athletics Department is seeking an Athletic Trainer.  The Department of Athletics sponsors 19 sports programs with more than 330 student-athletes, and is a member of the Big East Conference.

The athletic trainer is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of all injuries to Xavier University Student Athletes and will be assigned to one team sport and two (2) individual sports. The athletic trainer will follow all divisional protocols and procedures as written following Xavier, NCAA, NATA and State of Ohio Board (OTPTAT).  Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

(1)          Oversight of the rehabilitation of assigned Student Athletes;
(2)          Referrals to health services;
(3)          Assistance in examinations and screenings;

(4)          Work with Beacon Orthopedics, TriHealth, Beacon and other medical providers to support the student-athletes ;

(5)          Attend all practices and matches/meets/games of the team sport assigned;

(6)          Provide coverage for all home matches/meets/games and attend the Big East Conference Championship of the individual sports assigned ;

(7)          Provide reporting of injuries to coaches, physicians and other medical providers, and strength and conditioning staff;      

(8)          Track all appointments, treatments and referrals for student-athletes of the assigned teams;

(9)          Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine with other athletic training –related assignments (i.e. processing insurance claims, transportation of student-athletes to medical appointments); and

(10)        Work closely with strength and conditioning.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree required
  • NATA certified and eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio
  • Athletic training  experience
  • Possess a philosophy of athletic training and wellbeing that supports the mission of Xavier University and its Athletic Department
  • Knowledge and a history of compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements for insurability under Xavier’s University’s policy
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
