About the Role:

The Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in delivering comprehensive athletic training and sports medicine services for Westminster University’s Intercollegiate Athletic Programs.

Under the direction of the athletic department, this role is responsible for coverage of assigned sports teams during practices, home and away competitions, and other team activities. The Athletic Trainer collaborates closely with physicians, coaches, and athletic training students to ensure the health and well-being of student-athletes while maintaining accurate and timely medical records.

Westminster University is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA II).

This position requires flexibility, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel with teams. The ideal candidate will be a licensed and certified athletic trainer with strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to supporting a diverse student-athlete population within a competitive collegiate athletics environment.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Athletic Training degree from accredited College/University
  • NATA certification
  • Current CPR and AED certifications
  • Licensed in Utah, or license-eligible
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and public relations skills (both written and verbal)
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and controlled manner
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in addition to experience
  • Two or more years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Athletic Training experience in a variety of sports
  • Regional candidates not needing to relocate preferred
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and public relations skills (both written and verbal)
  • Proven ability to work with the higher education students, and a commitment to the overall student-athlete experience
  • Experience working effectively with a diverse population
  • Ability to carry essential equipment


Responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency medical coverage and athletic training services including injury prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies for sports as assigned with all home and away competitions and practices
  • Provide coverage (including daily practice, home event and travel) of assigned sports; multiple teams will be assigned to each Athletic Trainer
  • Maintain records concerning athletic injuries, their etiology, treatment, and follow-up treatment
  • Assist in oversight of athletic training students
  • Coordinate physician and medical staff referrals for injured student-athletes
  • Document all injuries and treatments in a timely manner
  • Comply with all NCAA, conference and athletic department rules and regulations
  • Attend all assigned staff and department meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Operational Requirements: 

  • Schedule outside normal business hours.
  • Schedule includes early mornings, late evenings, weekends and travel
  • Travel is required for assigned teams which includes a minimum of one team each season
