This an off-schedule, non-bargaining position

This position will begin with the 2026-2027 school year. New hires may attend paid training days in August. 



JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Licensed Athletic Trainer is responsible for collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The person in this position will Assist the Athletics Program, both coaches and athletes, and school faculty in further developing and enhancing their student athletic program, along with other duties outlined in “Essential Duties and Responsibilities”. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary by supervisor.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. National Athletic Trainer’s Association Member (in good standing).
  2. Holds Washington State Department of Health Licensure.
  3. Certified in First Aid/CPR from American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  4. Preferred for the ATC to be certified in First Aid/CPR instruction.
  5. High school graduate.
  6. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within 30 days of employment.
  7. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  8. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  9. Must pass a basic skills test.
  10. Must pass a Background Check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  11. Completion of Safe School Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. National Athletic Trainer’s Association Member (in good standing).
  2. Holds Washington State Department of Health Licensure.
  3. Evidence of licensed athletic trainer, and compliance with WIAA and district rules and regulations. 
  4. Certified in First Aid/CPR from American Red Cross or American Heart Association - Preferred for the ATC to be certified in First Aid/CPR instruction.
  5. Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
  6. Positive recommendations and evaluations in past and present jobs.
  7. Meet and maintain coaching standards as determined by the Kennewick School District and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
  8. High School Diploma or GED.
  9. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  10. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  11. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  12. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  13. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  14. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  15. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Demonstrated short and long-term organization and management skills.
  2. Three current recommendations.
  3. Demonstrated evidence of being a positive role model.
  4. Clearly defined philosophy for the coaching level applied for.
  5. Coaching experience in this sport.
  6. Evidence of effective public relations.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and communicate with students, parents, assistant coaches, administrators, and community members.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The Licensed Athletic Trainer will be on campus from 2-6pm, Monday-Friday to monitor practices (unless there is a game conflict).
  2. The Licensed Athletic Trainer must provide coverage for the following events (Monday-Saturday):
      • Fall Sports Season
        • Football – Varsity (home/away), JV/Freshman (home)
        • Girls Soccer – JV/Varsity (home)
        • Volleyball – JV/Varsity (home)
      • Winter Sports Season
        • Boys & Girls Basketball – Freshman/C/JV/Varsity (home)
        • Wrestling – JV/Varsity (home)
        • Gymnastics, if applicable (home)
      • Spring Sports Season
        • Boys Soccer – JV/Varsity (home)
        • Track & Field – JV/Varsity (home)
        • Baseball – Varsity (home)
        • Softball – Varsity (home)
  3. The Licensed Athletic Trainer is responsible for collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
  4. Monitor athletic injuries and develop injury prevention training and programs.
  5. Assist athletes and parents in connecting with Orthopedic Physicians, Physical Therapists, etc. for follow-up evaluations and physical therapy.
  6. Provide training and opportunities for students in the Sports Medicine class to grow and learn about the profession.
  7. The Licensed Athletic Trainer is responsible for coordinating ongoing efforts to increase the quality of the athletic training room at their designated school including:
      • Completing the annual supply/equipment order to submit for bidding and upon return working with the Athletics Secretary to complete the final ordering.
      • Organize and Inventory all supplies, equipment, and products.
  8. Assist the Athletics Program, both coaches and athletes, and school faculty in further developing and enhancing their student athletic program.
  9. Provide strength and conditioning training suggestions to the school’s coaching staff.
  10. To carry out the objectives of the sports program as outlined by the athletic director.
  11. To assist coaches in fulfilling administrative, program coordination, and developmental duties and responsibilities.
  12. To instruct participants in individual, group, and team techniques, tactics, and physical training necessary for the realization of success.
  13. To implement training and coaching philosophies consistent with the Kennewick School District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association mission statements.
