Port Angeles High School is seeking a Head Coach for its Boys Basketball program. The Roughriders compete at the 2A level in the Olympic League and have a proud tradition of competitive success and community support. The Head Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the program, including planning and conducting practices, developing athletes, managing the coaching staff, overseeing program budgets and equipment, coordinating travel, supervising athletes, and maintaining strong communication with families, staff, and the broader community. The Head Coach will work collaboratively with other winter coaches and is expected to model professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to student development—both on and off the court—while ensuring full compliance with WIAA regulations and Port Angeles High School policies.
High school or middle school coaching experience required
Collegiate basketball playing experience may substitute for coaching experience
Strong knowledge of basketball systems, skill development, and team strategy
Demonstrated leadership, consistency, and team-building ability
Must meet or be willing to complete WIAA coaching certification requirements, including:
WIAA General Rules Clinic
Basketball-Specific Rules Clinic
Concussion Management Training
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to season start
Commitment to sportsmanship, academic success, and personal growth of athletes
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain student confidentiality and follow all district and WIAA policies
Must uphold Port Angeles High School’s coaching expectations around preparation, integrity, and community engagement
Attendance and punctuality are essential
