Position Overview

Wingate University, a proud member of NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Softball Coach to lead its softball program. The Head Coach is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and development of the softball program in alignment with the mission of the University and the Department of Athletics.

We are seeking a proven leader who will foster competitive success, academic achievement, and the holistic development of student-athletes. Previous head coaching experience is strongly preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in all aspects of the softball program, including recruitment, coaching, scheduling, player development, academic support, and program administration.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to foster competitive success within the South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II.

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain student-athletes who demonstrate the potential to succeed athletically, academically, and personally.

  • Manage and oversee assistant coaches and support staff to ensure a positive and collaborative team culture.

  • Promote academic achievement, life skills, and overall well-being of student-athletes.

  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, South Atlantic Conference, and Wingate University rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Manage program budget, fundraising efforts, and alumni/community engagement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with athletic administrators and other campus constituents to support the mission of Wingate Athletics and the University.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated success as a head coach (preferred) or assistant coach at the collegiate level.

  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Proven ability to recruit, motivate, and mentor student-athletes.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Commitment to the academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
