POSITION: Head Varsity Soccer Coach – Men's and/or Women's Soccer
LOCATION: Weddington High School
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
Proven ability to organize, manage, and lead a comprehensive high school soccer program.
Successful prior coaching experience at the high school level or above is preferred.
Deep understanding of soccer strategy, technique, and player development.
Committed to continued professional development through clinics, certifications, and self-study.
Serves as a positive role model in conduct, leadership, and communication.
Must meet all NCHSAA and UCPS coaching requirements, including CPR/AED certification.
To lead a competitive varsity soccer program that emphasizes athletic excellence, student development, academic success, and character building. The coach will create a culture of accountability, sportsmanship, and team unity, while maintaining high expectations both on and off the field.
Set the tone for the program with clear expectations for effort, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Develop and maintain a year-round program that supports student-athlete growth and skill progression.
Establish a clear vision and philosophy that aligns with the athletic department and school mission.
Serve as a mentor and leader to athletes, assistant coaches, and lower-level coaches.
Plan and execute effective practices and game strategies.
Provide instruction in individual and team fundamentals.
Evaluate player performance and potential with fairness and consistency.
Promote multi-sport participation and overall athlete wellness.
Coordinate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, transportation, officials, and facilities.
Ensure proper documentation of physicals, eligibility, parental consent, etc.
Submit and manage team budgets and equipment orders.
Maintain accurate inventories and ensure proper care of equipment and uniforms.
Recruit, train, and supervise assistant and JV coaches, ensuring alignment with program goals.
Oversee off-season workouts, summer training, and potential feeder programs in collaboration with middle school coaches.
Foster a collaborative and positive staff dynamic.
Monitor academic performance and work closely with faculty as needed.
Communicate team rules, schedules, and expectations clearly to players and families.
Promote positive behavior, accountability, and character development.
Represent Weddington High School with professionalism and class.
Communicate with parents, boosters, and media as appropriate.
Help build community support and engagement with the soccer program.
Participate in preseason meetings, end-of-season evaluations, and awards ceremonies.
Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to handle the pressures of competitive athletics while prioritizing student well-being.
Uphold and enforce all NCHSAA, district, and school rules and policies.
