Position Purpose

The head women’s basketball coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for assisting in the organization and administration of the women’s basketball program in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by Vaughn College and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

The head women’s basketball coach must have a commitment to developing a basketball program, while maintaining an emphasis on the academic success of the student-athlete. The basketball coach will be expected to ensure the program promotes the health, safety and welfare of the student-athlete.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  1. Teaching all aspects of basketball while exhibiting thorough knowledge of the sport, coaching strategies, and player development. Host a minimum of 2 practices per week.
  2. Adhere to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) rules and regulations.
  3. Lead targeted recruitment efforts both on and off campus to expand the basketball team roster.
  4. Work within the framework of the Department of Athletics administration and coaches.
  5. Assist in scheduling between 10-12 games for the winter season as directed by the Director of Athletics. Coordinate logistics for games including courts, officials, trainers, transportation, food.
  6. Communicate effectively with students, faculty, administration, staff and alumni.

Education and/or Experience Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. 1-2 years of previous coaching experience required.
  3. CPR/AED certified (Willing to obtain certification within first month of employment).

Professional Skills

Candidate must have great communication skills, as well as, strong writing and verbal skills. Must be team oriented. Computer software skills are vital. Examples include; Microsoft word, Microsoft excel.

Reasoning Ability

Must meet deadlines set by membership associations for all athletic information and player nominations.

Work environment and physical functions

This position is expected to travel to both games and practices. Generally, an employee needs to be able to stand for long periods of time. The employee must be eligible to drive the college’s 15 passenger van.

Compensation

This position is temporary, seasonal and part-time. The compensation for this position is a stipend of $6,000.
