Position Title: Competition Cheer Coach (Winter Season 2)
Department: Massabesic Athletic Department
Reports To: Athletic Director, in conjunction with the Principal
Qualifications:
Prior experience in cheerleading, coaching, or dance (preferred at middle school level or higher)
Meets RSU 57 eligibility requirements:
CPR/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain
NFHS Coaching Certification or the ability to complete required certifications prior to the start of the season.
Concussion Management Course
Heat & Acclimatization Course
RSU 57 Background checks and fingerprinting
Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training
necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and lead regular practices that promote athletic growth, team cohesion, and competition readiness.
Develop and teach safe and effective cheerleading skills, techniques, and routines in line with NFHS and MPA regulations.
Oversee safety protocols and proper technique for stunting, tumbling, and choreography.
Provide mentorship and guidance that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of student-athletes.
Coordinate and attend competitions, transportation logistics, and other team events.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, and the athletic department.
Maintain responsibility for the care, inventory, and return of school-issued equipment and uniforms.
Follow RSU 57 policies and department expectations for middle school athletics.
Language and Communication Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents pertinent to position, i.e. athletic policy manuals, handbooks, and state guidelines.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly, in speech and writing, to parents, coaches, and athletes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, athletes, coaching staff, and the community
Mathematical Skills:
1. Understanding of budgeting and accounting practices
Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of the position, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently use demonstration techniques while coaching that require physical activity, such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, swinging an implement, and general body movement. The employee will need to carry items that may be heavy (in excess of 20 pounds). The employee will occasionally need to sit for long periods of time, and frequently travel by bus. The position may require the employee to work extended hours to meet the demands of the position.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally will be excessive. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.Reasonable accommodations will be made to allow individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
