Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and Team Physician, the Assistant Athletic Trainer provides direct medical care for injuries and illnesses to student-athletes in our 11 varsity sports and offers five hours of weekly clinical support to Club Sport athletes through scheduled appointments. This is a temporary, not-benefitted on-call position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prevent, evaluate and treat athletic injuries or illnesses including but not limited to concussion management and return to play decision-making.
Provide game and practice coverage including days, nights, weekend, holiday, and limited travel coverage.
Manage medical clearance for varsity student-athletes in conjunction with Head Athletic Trainer and College Health Services.
Maintain appropriate record keeping and documentation through the use of EMR.
Collaborate with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver appropriate care and referrals to student-athletes.
Provide education regarding musculoskeletal injuries and general illnesses; minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
Assist with the daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training room, including but not limited to inventory.
Assist Head Athletic Trainer with administrative duties as assigned.
Adhere to the MA state Rules and Regulations Governing the practice of Athletic Training (259 CMR 4.00: Athletic Trainers), NATA Code of Ethics, and BOC Standards of Professional Practice.
Assist in overseeing student workers, including hiring in collaboration with the Head and Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Provide support to Club Sport athletes through offering five clinical hours per week for injury consultation appointments.
Participate in all department and college committees as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (CAATE accredited program)
CPR/AED certification
Valid driver’s license
In good standings with the BOC (exam eligible or ATC)
Eligible for MA state licensure
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree (CAATE accredited program)
CPR/AED instructor certification
