    Job Goal/Summary:

    To provide leadership in organizing and maintaining the District’s sports medicine program including the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by the District’s student-athletes while competing in interscholastic athletic competition and activities.  

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     
    1. Post-Baccalaureate Degree required.
    2. Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by Board of Certification (BOC)
    3. PA State Athletic Trainer License
    4. Valid Driver’s License
     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     
    1. Facilitates proper medical care, treatment, and/or rehabilitation service for all student-athletes involved in interscholastic athletic competitions in the District to include team physicians, the assistant athletic trainer, and student interns.
    2. Manages and coordinates care and treatment for all student-athletes between team physician(s), assistant athletic trainer(s), and student intern(s) including coverage of the training room(s) and game/competitions. This includes working days that are unique to this position, such as over winter break in order to accomodate tournaments. 
    3. Ensures appropriate referrals are made for student-athletes to be evaluated and/or treated by the appropriate medical professional.  
    4. Maintains and manages District AEDs.
    5. Leads and implements injury prevention activities for athletic staff, coaches, and student-athletes.
    6. Coordinates and manages all relevant and applicable pre-participation activities and safety testing. This requires some pre-season working days determined by PIAA calendars. 
    7. Coordinates and manages student-athlete records including but not limited to pre-participation physicals and PIAA paperwork.
    8. Develops and implements standard operating procedures for the athletic department as required by the Pennsylvania Medical Practice Act.  
    9. Maintains effective communication with the building and district level administrators, athletic department administration, staff, and coaches regarding athlete injuries, game conditions, procedures, and available resources.
    10. Ensures all athletic training and care facilities are safe and properly equipped and maintained.
    11. Administers and enforces local, state, and federal policies and procedures established in District policy, athletic department and student handbooks, and standard operating procedures.
    12. Establishes and maintains inventory for athletic training rooms at the Yellow Breeches Middle School, Iron Forge Elementary School, and Boiling Springs High School.
    13. Managed contracts for team physicians. 
    14. Orders supplies.
    15. Helps head coaches identify and provide all necessary medical and health related team equipment.
    16. Performs other duties as assigned.
