TITLE: Interscholastic Athletics - Coach
REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics EVALUATION: Director of Athletics - following each season
SUPERVISES: Assistant Coaches
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Head coaches will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive athletic program within the high school setting. The primary focus will be on coaching and mentoring student-athletes, fostering skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This role requires effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills to create a positive and competitive sports environment.
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED):
Coaching certification or ability to obtain certification (upon request).
Successful prior coaching experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques of the specific sport.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
Demonstrated organizational and leadership abilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Player development: Provide quality coaching, emphasizing skill development, strategy, and overall athletic performance. Conduct regular practice sessions to enhance individual and team skills. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.
Game Preparation: Develop and implement effective game strategies. Analyze opponents and adapt coaching techniques accordingly. Ensure players are mentally and physically prepared for competitions.
Player Evaluation: Assess and evaluate the performance of individual players during practices and games. Provide constructive feedback to players for improvement.
Team Management: Organize and supervise team activities, including practices, games, and team events. Collaborate with assistant coaches to ensure a coordinated and cohesive coaching approach.
Athlete Mentorship: Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, promoting academic success, character development, and responsible behavior.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all relevant school, district, and league policies. Prioritize the safety and wellbeing of student-athletes during all team activities.
Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with parents, school administration, and the local community. Represent the school and athletic program at relevant meetings and events.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice sessions and competitions.
Bus travel with athletes required for away games and tournaments.
Ensure and maintain accurate records for athletes.
Ensure and maintain all equipment and facilities are safe for athletic competition.
