    Coaching Opening & Job Description
    Job Title:  Assistant Middle School Football Coach
    Supervisor:  Athletic Director

    Job Summary
    This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork and the game of basketball. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting organizing and leading the middle school program.  The assistant coach conducts practices, instructs student-athletes in game fundamentals, strategies and techniques, and coaches during competitions.
     
    Essential Job Duties
    1. Follows and upholds the rules, policies and mission of BVMS and the Athletics Department.
    2. Follows and upholds all League and CHSAA procedures and guidelines.
    3. Assists the Head Coach with organizing and directing the Buena Vista Middle School Football program.
    4. Communicates with and provides support to the middle school coaches and program.
    5. Instructs and demonstrates skill sets, fundamentals and techniques necessary for individual and team development in the sport of football.
    6. Assists in scheduling bus transportation for games with the athletics director and director of transportation.
    7. Travel to and from competitions with the student athletes on the team bus.
    8. Assists in submitting athletic rosters to the Athletic Department in a timely manner once teams are determined. Provide the department with any changes to rosters immediately.
    9. Assists in determining and provide letter and award winners to the Athletic Department at the end of sport season.  Assist with organizing an end of season team banquet.
    10. Assists with checking and securing all team storage rooms.
    11. Assists with secureing building doors and locker rooms after practice and trips.
    12. Assists with distributing and checks back in all equipment, supplies and uniforms issued to the students.
    13. Consults with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs and camps.
    14. Assist Head Coach with an informational parent meeting at the beginning of the season.
    15. Supervises athletes during practices, travel and competition.
    16. Directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises at practice.
    17. Assist with providing opportunities for out of season open workouts to further skill development.
    18. Instructs student-athletes in the rules, regulations, equipment, fundamentals and techniques of the sport.
    19. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.  Supports multi-sport participation of student-athletes at BVMS.
    20. Must have a flexible schedule to insure attendance at all practices and competitions, including Saturdays.
    21. Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
    22. Maintains strong interpersonal skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.  Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, and contributing to building a positive team spirit and environment.
    23. Works directly with the certified athletic trainer in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries.
    24. Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing teams, coaches, parents, officials, spectators and community.
    25. Attend coaching clinics and other professional development opportunities to enhance coaching performance.
    Qualifications
    1.       Complete a pre-employment background check
    2.       Previous middle/high school football coaching experience preferred
    3.       Have exceptional leadership and communication skills
    5.       Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
    6.       Current Concussion Management Training & Certification
